HCPC welcomes new Council members

The Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr David Stirling and Dr Kathryn Thirlaway to Council.

Dr David Stirling is currently the Director of Healthcare Science for NHS National Services Scotland and a Consultant Clinical Scientist for NHS Lothian. He has over 28 years’ experience as a clinical scientist and led the introduction of Haematology Molecular testing in NHS Lothian, leading to a National service for genetics of bleeding disorders, and the introduction of molecular pathology testing.

Dr Kathryn Thirlaway is currently the Deputy Dean (Sport) in Cardiff School of Sport and Health Sciences at Cardiff Metropolitan University). She has made a significant contribution to the development of applied psychological learning, teaching and research including publishing health promotion textbooks and leading the development of over 20 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Christine Elliott, Council Chair HCPC, commented:

“I am delighted that David and Kathryn have joined the Council and I look forward to working with them. Their strategic leadership skills along with their extensive clinical and educational experience will be invaluable to the HCPC in achieving our ambition of intelligent and lean, quality regulation.”

Chief Executive and Registrar of the HCPC, Marc Seale, commented:

“Council members play a fundamental role in setting the organisation’s strategy and policy, as well as ensuring that HCPC maintains efficient regulatory processes, and fulfils its statutory duty of public protection. Everyone at HCPC is looking forward to working with David and Kathryn.”
