In February 2013, the report of the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust. Public Inquiry was published. This contains key findings and important recommendations to ensuring patient safety going forward.

Robert Francis QC recommended that organisations should consider the findings and recommendations of this report and decide how to apply them to their work.

As a professional regulator, HCPC has an important role to play in helping ensure quality and safety in healthcare services. We agreed a policy statement and action plan setting out the HCPC’s commitment to working to meet the Report’s recommendations relevant to regulation.

This includes our ongoing review of Standards, promoting professionalism amongst registrants, our continuing commitment to improving the fitness to practise process and making our complaints process accessible and transparent. The action plan includes timescales for implementation and is kept under regular review with reports published on our progress.
