We are committed to engaging with our stakeholders, and taking account of their views and input in the way that we carry out our work.
One of the ways in which we do this is by consulting when we are planning a new area of work, or planning to change the way that we do something.
In this section of the website, you can find information about current consultations, closed consultations, and other organisations' consultations that we have responded to.
You can also find information on how we carry out consultations and how you can get further information on consultations we will carry out in the future.
Government Consultation Principles
As part of our commitment to meeting good practice we follow the Government Consultation Principles. These can be found here.
It is important that all appropriate stakeholders know about our consultations. We make consultations as accessible and widely available as possible. We do this by putting details and relevant links and documents on our website, and sending an advisory email to all contacts on the consultation list. We also post hard copies on request. We publicise consultations at different external events (for example, at Meet the HCPC events, Employer Events, and Education Seminars), through our enewsletter, and with press releases.
We use Surveymonkey to collect and analyse responses. Responses may also be submitted by email or post. Responses to all consultations are received by the Policy and Standards Department. When a consultation ends, we analyse the responses and present a summary of these along with the key decisions we have made in light of the feedback from the consultation. This summary goes through all of the applicable committees and Council before being published in the consultations section of the website.
How have consultations changed decisions?
Consultations are an important way of engaging with stakeholders. We have made a number of changes to standards and guidance following consultation. For example, we made a number of changes to the standards of proficiency for social workers in England following feedback from the consultation.
